#DecisionJa2016: Comrades confident Pickersgill will retain seat
KINGSTON, Jamaica – People’s National Party (PNP) supporters of St Catherine North Western have expressed confidence that the incumbent Robert Pickersgill will retain his seat, despite soundings on the ground that JLP candidate Newton Amos could take the victory.
Pickersgill, the party chairman, has maintained the position of member of parliament over the constituency for a number of years. However, there have been words on the ground that it will be a tight battle between him and Amos.
“We nu need fi fret; yuh know when yuh dun know something so the PNP haffi tek home the victory,” community member Serena Needham told the Observer Online.
Both PNP and JLP supporters are out in their numbers to cast their vote at the Linstead Primary and Junior High School.
Independent candidate Gene Guthrie also hopes to secure some of the votes.
A total of 32,965 electors are on the voters’ list for St Catherine North West.
