#DecisionJa2016: ‘Articulate minority’ votes
KINGSTON, Jamaica — Social media users have been posting pictures on Facebook and Twitter, showing that they have exercised their right to vote.
The pictures, many showcasing inked fingers, are accompanied by hashtags supporting the exercise of the democratic right to vote.
Despite views that the “articulate minority” group does not participate in the democratic process, the large number of photos now being circulated on the Internet says otherwise.
The group, “articulate minority”, which is comprised primarily of social media users, took on its name following utterances by the People’s National Party’s Robert Pickersgill.
“As a citizen I feel proud to exercise my right as a citizen to vote and as a proud member of the #ArticulateMinority, I feel even better knowing those who mocked us will be forced to realise we also matter.” Tiffany Hill told OBSERVER ONLINE shortly after posting a picture of her freshly inked finger in her articulate minority shirt.
