#DecisionJa2016: All calm as soldiers help with security in St Mary
ST MARY, Jamaica — Voting in St Mary South Eastern has been incident free so far.
The atmosphere in the constituency has been very calm and peaceful and mostly small pockets of voters are filing into the polling stations in their party colours.
Members of the Jamaica Constabulary Force and the Jamaica Defence Force have been deployed at several stations within the constituency to ensure that the voting process is incident free.
Lieutenant Colonel Rickman Martin, who is in charge of a batch of soldiers deployed in St Mary and Portland, told the OBSERVER ONLINE that there have been no reports of incident so far and that he is expecting a very peaceful day. According to him, the JDF soldiers are deployed in every parish along side police officers to assist them to maintain law and order. However, he said that the soldiers are not on duty at every polling stations in St Mary because “the polling stations outnumber the soldiers.”Along with helping to maintain law and order and ensuring that voters vote freely, the soldiers will also ensure that the ballots are safely transported to the counting station when voting closes at 5:00 pm.
