Hyatt’s heroics spare Arnett from Rivoli charge
Outstanding goalkeeping by Damian Hyatt saved Arnett Gardens FC the blushes as Rivoli United held them to a pulsating 0-0 draw in their Red Stripe Premier League Monday night game at the Anthony Spaulding Sports Complex.
Hyatt, wearing the captain’s armband, stood between his team’s defeat and Humble Lion by executing four spectacular saves that kept Rivoli from falling behind.
At one point in the first half, Hyatt threw himself full stretch to block Kemar Bennett’s piledriver, which Rivoli’s Nicholas Scott eventually stabbed home, but the effort was ruled offside by referee Valdin Legister.
Before this, the Arnett goalie went full stretch to save a low shot that was sneaking into his right-hand corner. He also had to leave his line on numerous occasions to intercept dangerous-looking crosses. Hyatt continued to produce his heroics.
But Arnett, who were missing a number of their senior players, made several raids on their opponent’s goal, but seemingly lacked the killer instinct to force a win.
Head Coach Jerome Waite had high praises for his young battalion. “We took the precautions not to play a number of our senior starters as you are aware; we leave the country in a few days and we do not want to suffer more injuries than we have already.
“So a number of our top players did not play today (Monday) and we will give the youngsters much credit and the goalkeeping was outstanding. So the point gained was a very good result against a physical Rivoli team,” said the veteran coach.
Rivoli Head Coach Bradley Stewart also had high praise for the Arnett goalkeeper Hyatt.
“I thought we played well enough to have won the game, but the goalkeeping was outstanding,” Stewart said.
