#DecisionJa2016: Portia vows to find who is responsible for shooting
ST ANDREW, Jamaica — As police officers on the ground work to restore order and keep Comrades now gathered in Portia Simpson Miller Square, St Andrew, calm after explosions sent them into a frenzy, People’s National Party President Portia Simpson Miller has vowed that she will find who is responsible.
Gunshots rang out a short while ago at the location that is the venue
for the final PNP mass rally ahead of Thursday’s general election.
Simpson Miller told Comrades that “no evil will prevail” while also thanking the members of the Jamaica Constabulary Force for how they handled the situation.
“What happened here tonight must never be overlooked, because someone else wants our meeting to look like some other meetings,” Simpson Miller told Comrades. “But what they do not understand about PNP people, we are never afraid, we are not afraid.
“And I want to thank the police for the way they have handled the situation, but ask that it be investigated because we are not like the other party. This is a loving, peaceful party…” Simpson Miller insisted.
On February 7, two people were shot dead at a Jamaica Labour Party rally in Sam Sharpe Square, Montego Bay, St James. Police reported then that three other people were also shot and injured in the shooting incident.
It is not immediately clear whether anyone was shot at the PNP rally which has regained its momentum, as the police officers are now trying to piece everything together.
However, reports are that people were injured as a result of the stampede which ensued after the explosions.
