#DecisionJa2016: Voting progressing smoothly — officials
KINGSTON, Jamaica — Election officials are reporting that voting for members of the Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF), Jamaica Defence Force (JDF) and election day workers is progressing smoothly.
The voting process started at 8:00 am.
“Voting at this location began on time and without incident,” said Major Denston Smalling, returning officer at Up Park Camp where members of the military are coming out in their numbers to cast their votes.
Over at Harman Barracks where some JCF members came out, similar sentiments were raised even though there were reports that the polling station opened seven minutes past the 8:00 am schedule.
“Separate and apart from the late start, things are progressing smoothly,” said Vernon Duncan, returning officer at Harman Barracks.
Over at Denham Town Police Station, officials said the voting process started out slowly but that it is picking up.
Electoral Office of Jamaica reports that there are:
• five polling locations (20 polling stations) for military voting;
• 21 polling locations (72 polling stations) for the police; and
• 169 polling stations (190 polling stations) for election day workers.
