#DecisionJa2016: First-time voters hope to make a difference
KINGSTON, Jamaica — A group of first-time voters from both the Jamaica Defence Force and the Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF) say they hope their votes will make a difference in the general election.
“I have always followed the elections, but never participated in the process. All of that will change this year,” one soldier told OBSERVER ONLINE.
She made her comment minutes after casting her vote at Up Park Camp in Kingston.
She was one of several voters who said they were this year casting their votes for the first time.
A few JCF members shared similar views at Harman Barracks.
“I just think this is the year I have to do what I can to help bring about change,” one officer said.
Another policeman said he decided to participate in the process as he wanted to continue the progress.
Members of the island’s security force asked that their names be withheld for security reasons.
