Kerensia co-chairs JLP rally in HWT
ST ANDREW, Jamaica — Kerensia Morrison, the 39-year-old high school teacher who was a last minute replacement candidate for the Jamaica Labour Party (JLP) in North Central St Catherine, has been chosen by the party to co-chair tonight’s mass rally in Half-Way-Tree, St Andrew.
It will be Morrison’s most formidable task since she was announced as the candidate to tackle minister responsible for sports in the Office of the Prime Minister, Natalie Neita Headley, in North Central St Catherine on Thursday.
JLP information spokesperson, Olivia “Babsy” Grange, says that the decision to have her co-chair the massive rally is an indication of its confidence in its young candidates, out of respect for its women, as well as in recognition of her ability to handle important assignments.
Morrison, who is also assistant general secretary for the JLP’s Area Council two, which includes St Catherine, will share duties with regular rally chairman, Desmond McKenzie, who heads Area Council one (Kingston and St Andrew) and is the party’s candidate for Western Kingston.
The JLP has 11 female candidates contesting Thursday’s general election.
