Island Grill Mandeville gives back
Mandeville, Manchester — Island Grill restaurant on Saturday February 13 officially opened its 17th location, at Mid Way Mall in Mandeville.
On the occasion a donation of over $700,000 was made to the Spur Tree-based Gift of Home Children’s Home — one of the facilities within the Mustard Seed Community in Jamaica, which is a charitable organisation affiliated with the Roman Catholic Church.
Administrator at the home Ann-Marie Parker-Dale said the facility caters to children with special needs and by the end of this month there will be nineteen residents.
She said the funding will go to “overall care”, including nutrition, medication and therapy.
David McRae, executive director and a business partner at Island Grill said that his organisation has always been supportive of the Mustard Seed Community.
Island Grill Mandeville has been doing business in Mandeville since New Year’s Eve and according to the proprietors there has been a positive reception.
Mandeville businessman Stephen Lyn Kee Chow, who was out for the official opening, said that he was one of the advocates to have Island Grill in Mandeville.
In addition to the new businesses, Lyn Kee Chow said, the possible resurgence of the bauxite/alumina industry will lead Mandeville back to its “boom days sooner than later”.
The property on which the Gift of Hope Home opened in 2013 was reportedly a donation to the Roman Catholic Diocese of Mandeville by the Lyn Kee Chow family.
