#DecisionJa2016: Lack of opportunities destroying future, Tufton insists
ST ANDREW, Jamaica — Jamaica Labour Party (JLP) candidate for St Catherine West Central Dr Christopher Tufton says that over the last four years the leadership of Jamaica has been resting.
Tufton said his main concern is the future for young people, insisting that a lack of opportunity for them is destroying the future.
The former member of parliament for St Elizabeth South Western questioned how this generation would be saved with unemployment hovering at “over 34 per cent”.
Tufton, while speaking to Labourites at Half-Way-Tree square in St Andrew, outlined a slew of plans he said the party had to address this issue, including a plan to revive the agricultural sector.
The former agriculture minister insisted that the JLP has shown vision in its recently released manifesto, adding that the party is devoted to agriculture as a means to creating jobs.
“Jamaica needs a team that knows how to build an economy, not clear debt or bad debt…Audley Shaw is still the man with the plan,” he said.
He argued that the country has been sidetracked from the “real issue by the PNP because they have done nothing”.
He mocked the PNP’s brainchild JEEP citing, “Every time I hear bout JEEP. all I think about is the people a weep.”
