#DecisionJa2016: JLP can’t lose this election, says McKenzie
ST ANDREW, Jamaica — Incumbent for West Kingston and deputy leader of the Jamaica Labour Party (JLP) Area Council One Desmond McKenzie said the only way the party can lose this election is if they “throw it away and give it back” to the People’s National Party.
According to McKenzie, the sea of supporters now attending the mass meeting in Half-Way-Tree, St Andrew, is a demonstration of the strength of the labour party.
“Less than four days before the next election we have gathered here believing in our hearts that better days are coming under the Jamaica Labour Party,” he said.
McKenzie expressed confidence that the people of Jamaica want a change and that change must come on Thursday.
“If you believe the ‘PainP’, because we can’t call them national party anymore because dem nuh have no respect for the Jamaican people, had a crowd in Half-Way-Tree check Labourite in Half-Way-Tree tonight,” he said. “We nuh come yah fi cuss nobody or talk bout dem house and disrespect nobody but to send a message of hope that the JLP will deliver,” he said.
McKenzie said the party has to sing the praises of party leader Andrew Holness because he does not trouble or envy anybody.
“He is a simple Jamaican with ambition,” he said, adding “when I look at Andrew I see a reflection of what Jamaica needs”.
But he told the Labourites that they and Holness alone cannot do it.
“We need those people who are contemplating if they must go out. We need a change,” he said.
Meanwhile, McKenzie accused the PNP of misleading voters that they cannot vote without their voter identification card as he noted that a lot of people in his and Holness’ constituencies raised concerns about it. He informed that once their names are on the voters’ list they are entitled to vote.
