Boys’ Town undaunted despite MoBay whipping
Boys‘ Town FC Technical Director Andrew Price says the big loss at home to Montego Bay United last time out will not sidetrack his team’s ambition to squeeze into the Red Stripe Premier League (RSPL) semi-finals.
The 0-4 defeat at Barbican Sports Complex left them eighth with 30 points from 25 games — six points adrift of Humble Lion FC, who currently hold on to the fourth and final semi-final place.
“The loss to Montego Bay doesn’t affect the morale that badly. It was just an awful game and the team admitted and we don’t believe that can happen on a consistent basis,” he said at Thursday’s RSPL press conference at Red Stripe’s Spanish Town Road base.
“What we need to do is consistently go out there and play the way we are capable of playing. We have shown against the big teams that we can play good, capable football. We just need to go out and try to execute to the best of our ability.”
Boys’ Town’s next game is today against newcomers University of the West Indies (UWI) FC at Mona Bowl.
“It’s [a] must-win game for us. If we are going to make a serious push to get into the semi-finals these are the games we need to win. Though we are playing away from home we definitely want to see if we can go out and maximise and get three points. It’s going to be a tough encounter, but we have no other choice but to go there and play positive football and get victory,” he told the Jamaica Observer.
The Marcel Gayle-coached UWI team is fifth with 34 points. While that has surprised some, Price reasoned that the experience and quality within their set-up warrant their positive position in the points standing.
“If you look at the UWI team and you look at the type of players [they have] you’ll see the players have long Premier League experience. They have quality players, they have a good unit and a good coach,” said Price.
The Boys’ Town tactician noted that the tightly bunched teams in the middle of the table – including his side and UWI – all have a chance of making the last four.
“Both teams are within the same point [in the table] and from position nine to four those teams have a good opportunity for getting that last semi-final spot. We have as good a chance as any of the teams competing right now,” he said.
