Both the Jamaica Labour Party and the People’s National Party had reportedly accepted an invitation from the RJR Communications Group to participate in a news forum in which they would be questioned, separately, by a team of its journalists on their plans, proposals and campaign issues for the 2016 general election.
RJR said after the collapse of efforts to stage the three national debates, the RJR Communications Group, with the prior knowledge of the Jamaica Debates Commission (JDC), invited the leadership of the two political parties to the weekly RJR Group News Forum.
According to a statement from the RJR Group, JLP Leader Andrew Holness on Thursday afternoon declined participation as the RJR Fora is being positioned by the People’s National Party as an alternative to the JDC debates.
“As a result, RJR would not in journalistic fairness give this opportunity to one party and therefore decided to cancel the fora,” the communication group said.
