JLP says roadblocks by political opponents disrupting Seiveright’s campaign
DELANO Seiveright’s campaign liaison manager has complained that roadblocks mounted in the St Thomas Eastern constituency by political opponents have been hampering the campain by the Jamica Labour Party (JLP) candidate.
“For the third time in just a few days, Mr Seiveright’s convoy was disrupted by roadblocks. After making a campaign stop in Airy Castle last night (Wednesday), several roadblocks obstructed Mr Seiveright’s motorcade along the main road.
Thankfully a police unit patrolling the area carefully escorted Mr Seiveright and his campaign team through the roadblocks,” Richard Porteous, the liaison manager, said in a press release yesterday.
According to Porteous, the roadblocks were mounted by unscrupulous political elements and comes on the same day that both Seiveright and Dr Ferguson — the People’s National Party (PNP) candidate — held consultations with the political ombudsman and senior police officers.
“On Saturday, Mr Seiveright’s convoy came up on a major roadblock in the Sunning Hill area [but] his security team caught up with the men blocking the road and instructed them to clear it,” said Porteous. He added that during a tour led by JLP Leader Andrew Holness last week men, said to be PNP supporters, used a tractor to obstruct the motorcade immediately after the party leader and Seiveright, with their security teams, passed.
“Realising that no vehicles could be seen immediately behind us after crossing the major bridge leading in and out of Bath, members of a police team had to turn back to assess the situation.
The road was subsequently cleared and the motorcade resumed,” Porteous charged. However, he said the JLP’s St Thomas Eastern Campaign Management Team is committed to a peaceful and positive campaign focused on improving the lives of the people of St Thomas Eastern.
