‘This has gone past ridiculous now, Delano’
PEOPLE’S National Party (PNP) campaign spokesman Delano Franklyn has come in for much ridicule from Jamaica Observer online readers over comments he made yesterday that the party was still not satisfied with the explanation from Opposition Leader Andrew Holness about the funding of the house he is building in upper St Andrew.
The ruling party has come in for much badgering from the public for using the house as one of its main speaking points on the campaign trail leading up to next Thursday’s general election. On Monday, Holness released details of the sources of finances for public scrutiny. But yesterday, Franklyn said Holness did not detail whether the loans he took were secured or unsecured. Here are some edited comments:

OK, move on to the next thing now. The house story is getting old.

Delano, my friend, you’re going to have to tear down that altar and remove that pic after election night, cause Jamaicans may just give you people running belly, or a cleansing of the stomach; washout the corruption, mischief-making and give you peeps the sense that power is privileged, to those who use and earn it.

If a laugh a dead. Mi ready fi vote now!

Enough is enough! You keep changing the mile post. Your real goal and purpose is to run out the clock and avoid defending your policies and plans. The really disturbing part of this is that people, even some intelligent and educated ones, would vote for you jerks. At this point, unless you have evidence of nefarious dealings, no one should care how, and/or from whom or where Mr Holness got his money to build his house. Stop playing the poor Jamaican people! Utter disgraceful and contemptuous.

Really! I’ve seen enough too. The debate doesn’t matter much now….it has lost its sting, as Portia hoped it would.

Whether the loans were secured or not is none of Delano Franklyn’s or the PNP’s business; he didn’t get any money from Trafigura or Finsac.

Is the nature of the OL’s (Opposition leader’s) loan a major problem confronting Jamaica right now? I want to visit and I am so afraid to do so, since, real or imagined, dangers exist! Talk about the REAL ISSUES facing the country.
HinterlandG
Ridiculous!

These people…this is really nasty…really, really nasty!

The man has answered. If he got special prices, is it any different than a person getting special price from his cousin’s company? You get stuff built cheap and people mad… Leave the man alone and focus on the country… Maybe if he can get his home built for half what experts say it should cost he can get hospitals and schools and roads built the same way… For less cost to us taxpayers.

No matter the number of answers Mr Holness gives, it will never be enough for people like Mr Delano Franklyn.

This is becoming real poppy show, to the detriment of the Jamaican nation. This is in the realm of tin foil. How does secured or unsecured loan by an individual affect the economic, job creation, crime reduction, dollar stablisation picture of Jamaica?
People, we need to relieve these purveyors of child-like antics from their misery by retiring them to where they can continue on their own dime.
PUSS&DAWG POLITICS
@summersqual: But Jamaica, a real “POPPY SHOW” country. Only in Jamaica, dem deh foolishness deh cah gallang unabated and people still line up fi vote for these people. Jamaicans, it seems, set very low standards that’s why they allowing Peter, Paul and Delano to continue make a “big house” an election issue. Andrew and his wife and their two kids should be living in a ONE BEDROOM plywood and zinc house…, cook and take bathe naked outside for all to see the glory of God. Then that wouldn’t be a problem for the PNP, because that is how they love to see people living while they are in townhouse and luxury condominiums. The problem with Andrew’s big house is that it wasn’t given to him by the PNP. Andrew and his wife worked hard, saved and built what they have. PNP believes that they should instead be on PATH programme. Only in Jamaica.

…Does Franklyn have any respect for people’s intelligence?
ELORY HENRY
@Courtney Barrette: No, he is a trained attorney…
marel
Dis ya party a real popyshow! DWL!
Charlie
If you don’t mind, Father, stop by here…LOL!. This shows me the desperation of the PNP. If mi neva sure before, mi sure now! February 25 hurry come!
Enigmatic
If Mr Holness really owes tens of millions of dollars for his house, I too would be concerned how he’s gonna pay it back considering the man is a prospective prime minister.
JayTee
@Enigmatic: His wife has means as well, idiots. She, according to most accounts, has been doing good!
Anthony II
@Enigmatic: If he cannot pay it back, the property can be sold! How does this affect the crime rate, migration of people who can engage in nation-building, limited prospects for progress for young (and middle-age, and old) people, tattered education and health systems? How does this issue help to address those problems?
Deeziejm
Sick and tired of this now.
camrick
Like seriously? I am getting indigestion now. What about crime, education, health care and the economy?
jamekya
This fly gone past ridiculous now. I am really thinking the PNP is on a suicide mission and has no desire of winning the election.
