#DecisionJa2016: Out-of-favour Pryce still loved by PNP supporters
MANCHESTER, Jamaica — Raymond Pryce, the embattled incumbent for St Elizabeth Nothern, received a warm welcome when he graced the stage of the People’s National Party mass rally here in Mandeville square on Sunday night.
The one-term member of Parliament fell out of grace with the hierarchy of the party following a contentious selection process last year.
Pryce withdrew from the contest after his supporters, including former Mayor of Black River Daphne Holmes, decided to take the PNP to court over the selection process.
After months of turmoil in the PNP’s St Elizabeth North Eastern organisation, Evon Redman received the approval of 339 of 467 delegates who turned out for a ratification exercise in late September.
“Big up Comrade Pryce, we are one family,” Wensworth Skeffery, deputy general secretary of the party said as Pryce waved and danced to music blaring from speakers.
Flag-waving Comrades cheered as the out-of-favour politician greeted them.
Redman is expected to represent the party at the national polls 11 days from now.
