Reasons to fast this lent
It appears that more and more people are gravitating towards an Easter experience of fasting. This is a great idea after overeating during the Christmas season. There are many ways to fast, so let us help you choose one.
COMPLETE FAST
If you are free of sickness, avoiding even water and food for a short time is good. It allows the body to utilise stored fat and sugar. Even rocks depend on water and man has only been able to naturally live without water for three days and food for 18 days.
Many people desire to fast like the Saviour or Moses, for 40 days. The truth is the
Bible does not give us enough information to tell us of the type of fast. Unless you hear from the Creator, we do not recommend such a lengthy fast.
WATER FAST
Most of us are dehydrated all year round. Unknowingly, it affects our mood and attitude.
It is true that the body you look at in the mirror is 70 per cent water. Melons are 90 per cent water – run it through a juice extractor and you will see.
At least eight glasses of pure water for the day is fine for improvement in mood, thoughts, emotions, perception, and spiritual strength while it cushions joint and soft tissues and facilitates physical cleansing.
JUICE FAST
Herbs, fruit and vegetable juices are ideal for fasting. It’s a perfect time to get water vitamins and minerals flowing through your blood to cells of every organs, muscle and nerve.
Diabetics, sicklers, immunocompromised individuals should avoid a strict fruit fast because high sugar levels for some, and quick elimination for others, can cause weaknesses.
ABSTINENCE FAST
You choose or you lose is another way of seeing this type of fast. For this fast you select the types of food to eliminate whether its fish, meat, eggs, sweets, soda, or alcohol, you choose what to abstain from.
Just start your fast and let the fast do its work.
