Victory is as ‘clear as day’, says Holness
JAMAICA Labour Party (JLP) leader Andrew Holness says that victory for the party in the February 25 general election is “as clear as day”.
“We are going to win. It is as clear as day that the JLP will form the next Government of Jamaica,” Holness told the press after handing in his nomination papers at the Waltham Education Centre in St Andrew West Central on Tuesday.
He said that he is confident that the Jamaican electorate will look closely at what both political parties have to offer, and realise that despite a much improved climate for growth, since the change of Administration in 2012, the Government is still unable to produce growth above 1.7 per cent.
He said that the Government has depended on public relations to reduce the level of optimism about a future under the JLP, and was being supported by people who are comfortable with things remaining the way they are.
“Those people who don’t bawl, want to know that the Government is going to prioritise paying the debt, rather than giving us a break, and so they are happy with it. But, there is another way.” Holness insisted.
He said that the electorate will take note that, “in four years with the lowest gas prices in decades …with the world economy rebounding and showing signs of long term growth and with, as they say, favourable international partner, they cannot pass 1.7 per cent growth”.
“The growth issue is a challenge to them, but we have the solutions. We did it in the 60s and we did it in the 80s and we are going to do it again,” Holnesss said, saying there is a clear distinction between the two major political parties.
