Somerton FC seek to extend lead
Somerton FC will seek to create some space between themselves and the rest of Zone 2 today, when they take on Copperwood FC at Somerton, gunning for a fifth straight win in the St James Football Association’s Sandals/ATL Division One.
Somerton FC, the only team yet to drop a point in Division 1, lead Zone 2 by two points, 12-10 over Bogue FC, with a game in hand. A win today would see them go five points clear.
It will not be an easy stroll, however, as Copperwood FC have taken seven points from their last three games, outscoring teams 8-5 in the process, and could make things interesting for the leaders.
The other four teams playing today are all seeking their first win. Salt Spring Roses will meet Westgreen FC at Albion, while Paradise FC and Irwin will meet at UDC field.
On Monday, Salt Spring United won their third straight game, beating Club Stars 2-0 at Hilton Rose Hall, to surge to second place in Zone 1 on nine points — just one behind leaders Firehouse FC — with a game in hand.
Lavario Whyte scored in the fourth minute — and Phillip Clarke in the 68th — as Club Stars ended with 10 players after Junior Higgins was red-carded in the 83rd minute.
Dave Drummond scored twice, as Firehouse salvaged a 2-2 draw with Revelations FC at the UDC field.
Drummond gave Firehouse the lead in the 20th minute, before Oshane McGhie equalised in the 25th minute.
Sebastian Robinson gave Revelations FC the lead in the 70th minute with his sixth goal of the season, but Drummond rallied in the 75th to earn his team a draw.
Promoted Bogue FC — which started the season with three straight wins — are winless in their last two games, coming from behind to earn a 1-1 draw with Seaview FC at Albion.
Kemar Hinds gave Seaview FC the lead in the second minute, but Jermaine McDonald earned a point for Bogue FC in the 26th minute.
