#DecisionJa2016: Incident-free nomination day in Trelawny
TRELAWNY, Jamaica — Two candidates, one from the ruling People’s National Party (PNP) and the other from the Opposition Jamaica Labour Party (JLP), were duly nominated at the Falmouth Town Hall during an incident-free nomination day in the Trelawny Northern constituency.
The PNP’s standard-bearer, Victor Wright, was the first to hand in his papers to Returning Officer Ivanoe Gordon and his team, at about 12:10 pm.
He paid his nomination fees using three $1,000 notes, on which the picture of former Prime Minister Norman Manley is affixed.
The JLP representative, Dennis Meadows, made his appearance about an hour and a half later.
His fees were made up of 30 $100 notes, bearing the image of former Prime Minister Donald Sangster.
Both candidates were accompanied into the historic Water Square in Falmouth by a number of their supporters, clad in respective party colours.
Meanwhile, in Trelawny Southern, incumbent Marissa Dalrymple Philibert of the JLP was nominated at noon, while the PNP’S candidate, Lloyd Gillings, went in at 11:00 am.
There was a strong presence of members of the security forces, keeping a close watch on the proceedings.
