#DecisionJa2016: Former UTech lecturer joins race for St Mary Western seat
ST MARY, Jamaica — An independent candidate has joined the list of political representatives nominated in St Mary Western.
He is Paul Ward.
Ward, a former lecturer of the University of Technology, was born in Britain but has been living in Jamaica since 1970.
“I would like to give people another choice,” Ward said.
He told OBSERVER ONLINE that he does not agree with some of the policies of the major political parties, and would like to bring some of his ideas forward, especially regarding the national debt.
He said people in St Mary Western have expressed dissatisfaction with the Jamaica Labour Party and the People’s National Party candidates, so he wants to give people another choice.
Ward, who arrived a few minutes after 1:00 pm, did not have any supporters.
However, he presented a list and was nominated at the Gayle courthouse.
He will go up against the JLP’s Robert Montague and the PNP’s Joylan Silvera on election day, February 25.
