#DecisionJa2016: All quiet at Mona High school nomination centre
ST ANDREW, Jamaica – The atmosphere at Mona High school in eastern St Andrew could easily be mistaken for a regular day, except that the students on the compound have been replaced by police personnel as all await the start of nomination day activities.
People’s National Party ((PNP) incumbent Andre Hylton is expected to arrive at 10:30 am and the Jamaica Labour Party’s candidate, Fayval Williams at noon.
Returning officer for St Andrew Eastern Veda Fagan who can be seen patiently awaiting the arrival of the candidates, explained that, “Once the date was announced we made sure that we had a meeting with the official reps of the parties and then a special session. We are satisfied that they have been advised of the procedures for today”.
She added that the candidates were advised that they could have as many supporters as they wish but that only a specific number of people would be allowed inside. “They all agreed… so that the supporters will be outside but coming into the centres about 15 persons will be allowed in,” Mrs Fagan noted.
