#DecisionJa2016: 152 candidates nominated for general election
KINGSTON, Jamaica — One hundred and fifty-two candidates were today nominated to contest the February 25 general election.
The two major political parties, the Jamaica Labour Party and the People’s National Party, had 63 nominated candidates each. Fifty-two of the JLP’s candidates are men, while 11 are women. Fifty of the PNP’s nominees are men.
The National Democratic Movement will have seven candidates contesting seats on election day — six men and one woman.
Also, 10 independent candidates threw their hats into the ring today — one woman is among them.
Meanwhile, the Marcus Garvey People’s Political Party (MGPPP) will have six candidates competing to represent constituencies on election day, while the People’s Progressive Party (PPP) will have two candidates. The candidates for both the PPP and MGPPP are all males.
Another party, Hope, nominated one candidate.
