JLP names female teacher as candidate for St Catherine North Central
Kerensia Morrison, a teacher and the assistant general secretary of the Jamaica Labour Party (JLP) Area Council Two, has been named as the Jamaica Labour Party’s (JLP) candidate for the St Catherine North Central constituency.
Morrison’s selection was confirmed last night at the JLP’s mass rally in Sam Sharpe Square, Montego Bay, by Opposition Leader Andrew Holness.
The 30-odd-year-old high school teacher joined the JLP’s young professionals affiliate, Generation 2000, while at Mico College. She was swept into the position of assistant general secretary for Area Council Two last February when Holness supporters in the area council declared their support for him to continue as leader in the face of a challenge to his leadership.
She is also the party’s candidate/caretaker in the Crescent Division of North Central St Catherine, which includes her hometown of Angels.
Morrison is the second female in recent times to join the JLP’s list of candidates for the February 25 General Election following the elevation of Dr Saphire Longmore, to the candidacy for St Elizabeth North Eastern, which was also confirmed last night.
Her selection follows the decision late last week by the original candidate for St Catherine North Central, Peter Abrahams, to withdraw for personal reasons.
