National Senior Amateur Boxing Championships begin Thursday
Jamaica Boxing Board President Stephen Jones says an “action-packed” weekend is on the cards for the National Senior Amateur Boxing Championships, to be held at the Stanley Couch Gym in Kingston.
The championships are scheduled to run from Thursday to Saturday.
“We’re looking forward to an action-packed weekend of boxing. The National Boxing Championships are for the best boxers that we have at the amateur level. They are looking to represent Jamaica, so they have been training for this and they are ready,” Jones said.
A release from the boxing board said a total of 68 entries — including 63 male and five female boxers — have been received. Boxers, aged 18 and over, will compete in elite and novice categories, with the latter designated for those with less than five bouts under their belts.
Stanley Couch Gym, Bruising Gym, GC Foster Gym, Jamaica Defence Force, Heavy Metal Gym, Sav Boxing Academy, St Thomas Boxing Club, Sugar Knockout Gym and Seaview Gardens Gym are the local participants. Entries have also been received from four overseas-based boxers. Two hail from Canada, while there is one each from England and United States.
