New film commish
CULTURAL industry strategist Renee Robinson is slated to be Jampro’s new film commissioner effective February 1.
Robinson replaces Carole Beckford who demitted office late last year.
Robinson, who is currently based in Canada, is the daughter of communications specialist Lincoln Robinson and his wife Barbara. She declined an interview with the Jamaica Observer, noting she would prefer to speak on her new post when she assumes office.
She holds a masters degree in communications and culture, with a specialisation in management of telecom innovation, from York University in Toronto.
A statement from JAMPRO said Robinson has worked in a production role with the ReelWorld Film Festival and Toronto International Film Festival.
“My first task at hand will be to build on the successful foundation of last year’s (Jamaica) Film Festival. This is more than just another event. It is meant to provide opportunities and exposure for our local talent, promote Jamaica as a versatile destination for location shooting, and show the world that the international film industry can come to Jamaica to do business,” she is quoted as saying.
