Lion gobble up Boys’ Town in midweek fixture
Humble Lion defeated Boys’ Town 3-1 in a second-round Red Stripe Premier League game at the Barbican playing field on Thursday.
A goal each from Francios Swaby (3rd minute), Ricardo Cousins (65th) and Wolry Wolfe (74th) carried Humble Lion to their ninth win of the season, but they remain fourth on the standings with 35 points and are topped only by leaders Portmore United (40 points), Arnett Gardens (38) and Montego Bay (37).
Shamar Nicholson replied for Boys’ Town in minute 18.
The defeat plunged Boys’ Town two places down the pecking ladder to eighth place on 26 points following a draw between UWI and Harbour View.
The game opened at a hectic pace on the uneven surface of the Barbican field, but before the teams settled, Swaby rattled the Boys’ Town net to put Humble Lion ahead. That set the pace for an enlivened afternoon’s game and 15 minutes on, Boys’ Town equalised through Nicholson who outjumped the Humble Lion defence to put a powerful header past goalkeeper Sanchez Lloyd.
On the resumption, Cousins broke the deadlock with a well-placed powerhouse from on top of the box leaving the Boys’ Town goalkeeper Mikhail Harrison a mere spectator.
Sixteen minutes before the end, Wolfe, who was an engine of activity in midfield, popped in the penalty area to make his mark with another well-placed shot past Harrison.
The scoring in the game ended there, but three minutes to the end Harrison was stretchered off, dazed following an aerial clash with an opposing player. Kirk Porter then replaced Harrison for the rest of the game.
