Rihanna reveals ANTIdiaRY rooms

Unlocking the meaning within them

Rihanna won’t be keeping her insanely anticipated ANTI album under lock and key for long. The Navy branded artiste in association with Samsung has launched the cryptic mobile site, ANTIdiaRY.  ANTIdiaRY is a hub of Rihanna’s memories unfolding in a series of episodes, which prompts the user to look for clues inside each room. According to one of the cryptic messages, it says “just the beginning of an unforgettable exclusive journey through Rihanna’s life story.”

ANTIdiaRY has eight episodes and thus far, seven has been revealed to the public’s eyes. It is said that each episode contains elements of her previous albums. The last episode of ANTIdiaRY will lead to the release of Rihanna’s eighth studio album, ANTI.

In case you missed it, Room 1 – “Bedroom” – symbolizes the beginning of Rihanna’s career as a map of Barbados is seen. The room is lengthy teaser that shows Rihanna following two children and finding a #R8 key on the floor. One of the children is a younger girl, who is the spitting image of her album artwork. Room 1 is symbolic of her first album, The Music of The Sun.

In Room 2, Rihanna is seen staring at the children from under a blanket as she walks through the room in a light blue dress. The colour blue is featured heavily in this scene. More so, even the little girl in the crown is illuminated in blue, and so is Rihanna. Due to the constant use of the colour blue, it’s inferred that Rihanna is nostalgic for her childhood, reflective of the title of her second album, A Girl Like Me.

Room 3 – “The Closet” – is reflective of the album Good Girl Gone Bad. Rihanna is escorted by maids and is pulled through a dark portal by her younger self.  Subsequently, her white dress turns dark purple, which suggests a change in character.

Room 4 – “Tattoo Parlour” – represents Rated R as it showcases Rihanna’s daring side as a female artiste. Here, she is seen inking a braille tattoo on a giant white man’s forehead, taking the ultimate control.

In Room 5 – “Tub” – Rihanna is seen in a bathtub overrun by murky water. Surrounding her are veiled figures clamouring for attention. It’s not until she submerges herself in the water that the whispers disappear, suggesting that silence, for her, is a hard commodity to come by.  Therefore, Room 5 represents the LOUD era, when Rihanna had a lot going on in her personal life.

Room 6 – “The Stage” – shows Rihanna as she makes her way to the stage situated on the other side of the room, as rally-goers follow closely behind. Queen RiRi takes the stage. We see her likeness projected onto the backdrop. Rihanna stares at the backdrop. The crowd stares at the Bajan beauty. With all the silence that’s depicted in this scene, it has contrasted itself with the album title, Talk That Talk.

Room 7 unlocks “The Gallery”, where Rihanna is referred to the shell vault that features four accountants using typewriters. She then faces the childhood version of herself who is wearing a crown represented in her album artwork, but for the first time, it has been handed to Rihanna. As Rihanna wears the crown, the room goes black with one single bright white door behind her. This room represents her seventh studio album Unapologetic where she signed to her own record label. Also, the mere fact that she’s wearing the crown now, shows that she is in ultimate control. Furthermore, this room gives insight about the music industry as it’s all about money. Since she’s backed away from the vault, clearly Rihanna’s interest lies elsewhere.

Let us see if Rihanna will enter the white door as Room 8 is left to be exposed. What does Room 8 have in stored for all the Navy’s?
