Coach hopeful injured Virgo will be ready for Lion
Boys’ Town FC Head Coach Andrew Price says injured right-back Xavian Virgo is improving and could be ready for Thursday’s Red Stripe Premier League (RSPL) match against Humble Lion FC.
Virgo sustained a nasty-looking nose injury after an aerial collision with Waterhouse FC player Jermaine ‘Tuffy’ Anderson during their match at Barbican Sports Complex on Sunday. The match ended 0-0.
An obviously dazed Virgo, with his face bloody, was taken off the field on a stretcher and carried to the hospital in an ambulance. Anderson was shown a yellow card for the challenge.
Price allayed fears of what appeared to be a broken nose.
“He was released in the wee hours [of Monday morning] from University Hospital of the West Indies (UHWI) after observation and X-ray. The results came back negative, but he has pain in the neck and he will be assessed day to day,” he told the Jamaica Observer yesterday.
“It’s unlikely he’ll wear a mask because the tests showed no break. A lot of the swelling has gone down so we are hopeful,” Price added.
“Hopefully he will play for us in our next game. His absence would definitely affect us. Virgo is an inspirational player and has been effective for us, so losing him for even one game will put pressure on the team,” said the Boys’ Town head coach.
The game versus Humble Lion is set for 3:00 pm at Barbican.
Boys’ Town are sixth in the RSPL table with 26 points, while Humble Lion are fourth with 29.
