Ranike Anderson seems headed to Arnett Gardens
Tough-tackling defender Ranike Anderson of Tivoli Gardens seems to be on his way to arch-rivals Arnett Gardens as the Red Stripe Premier League transfer window opens.
Anderson, 28, who is arguably one of the best defenders in the league, was spotted training at Arnett Gardens recently.
However, Brian Rose, manager of Tivoli Gardens, told the Jamaica Observer that as far as he is concerned Anderson is still a Tivoli Gardens player.
“That’s what I hear but I don’t have any proof,” said Rose of Anderson’s imminent move. “Nobody has approached us about him and Arnett haven’t spoken to us about him also.”
Anderson, who only this season scored against Arnett Gardens, is a traveller having represented four teams in the last six years.
In 2010 he moved from St Mary’s outfit Star Cosmos to St George’s of Portland where he rubbed shoulders with the likes of Randal Huie, Craig White, Romeo Parkes, Damian Reid, Girvon Brown, Ricardo Watson, Delroy James, Daniel Shaw and Donavan Davis.
The following year he moved back to St Mary but that time with Highgate United in 2011 before he was gobbled up by Tivoli Gardens in 2012 where he really made a name for himself.
Anderson, who is best known for his epic battles with top striker Jermaine ‘Tuffy’ Anderson, will form a formidable backline at Arnett Gardens alongside former national defenders Oneil ‘Bigga’ Thompson and Dicoy Williams.
Anderson will bring pace to a backline that would also see the inclusion of 23-year-old Ramone McGregor, the former captain of Barbican FC who was in Trinidad and Tobago with San Juan Jabloteh.
Meanwhile, the champions Arnett Gardens could add more to their firepower as Gary McIntosh was also spotted at the Anthony Spaulding Sports Complex.
McIntosh looks set to make the switch from struggling Waterhouse and could form a most lethal strike force alongside Kemal Malcolm, Newton Sterling and Leon Strickland.
Marvin Morgan should also make a return to the Arnett line-up as the champions look to strengthen for the second half of their defence of the premier league title, as well as an assault on the Caribbean Football Union Club Championship.
