Junior boxing champs deemed a success
Kingsley Goodison, an executive of the Jamaica Boxing Board (JBB), says the December 19 National Junior Championship was a success.
The event saw over 20 fighters from seven teams competing in the Junior and Youth categories at Stanley Couch Gym in Kingston.
St Thomas, with 12 points, won the team title ahead of Stanley Couch (seven points), Sav-La-Mar (four points), Trench Town and Bruising (three points), Sugar Knockout (two points) and Seaview (one point).
Outstanding junior title went to 15-year-old Anthony Burke of St Thomas, while 17-year-old Menilik Russell of Sav-La-Mar took the Youth division.
“The quality of boxing was good, we saw a lot of technical potential in the youngsters,” says Goodison who is in charge of the JBB’s youth and amateur programmes.
The next major event on the JBB calendar is the senior national championship, scheduled for the Stanley Couch Gym from January 28-30.
