National Continental Baking Company provides dough to Waterhouse FC
WATERHOUSE FC received a boost of $1 million from the National Continental Baking Company on Sunday to help to revive their flagging campaign in the 2015/2016 Red Stripe Premier League season.
The National Continental Baking Company — which donated $7 million towards assisting to erect the Eastern Stands, Phase 1 at Drewsland — being a friend of the Waterhouse FC, once again responded to the call from Bruce Bicknell, the Waterhouse FC chairman and Stephen Sykes, the company’s director of operations by presenting a symbolic cheque for $1 million to Bicknell at the half-time break of the Red Stripe Premier League home game against Arnett Gardens at Drewsland on Sunday.
At the presentation, Sykes was committed: “Assisting with sports development at the community level has very positive rewards for good community relations and in this respect, when the need arises, we at the National Continental Baking Company will do our best to assist.”
Waterhouse FC president Fitzroy Vidal responded: “We are very, very grateful for the contribution from National Continental Bakery. To run a successful football programme takes money as the juvenile programmes depend on what you do to aid development. The community is also mindful of the level of commitment aimed at supporting the young talent in the community, so that it can later provide adequate entertainment on the field of play.
“When an adequate infrastructure is not in place, a club will not attract a certain level of support from its community… Hence, when the National Continental Baking Company steps up — particularly at this time when we are at the bottom of the (Red Stripe Premier League) table and the club is experiencing a serious fall-off in attendance — the company is demonstrating that it is with us through thick and thin,” observed Vidal.
