DAVIS PEN, Trelawny – Second-year team Salt Marsh United will seek to continue their red-hot run in the Jamaica Football Federation’s Charley’s JB Rum Western Confederation Super League when they host Montego Bay Boys Club at Davis Pen on Sunday.
On Tuesday, Salt Marsh won their third straight game, hammering defending champions Savannah SC 4-1 at Frome to remain perfect and race to nine points at the top of Zone 1.
Garrell Gooden scored two goals to lead the Trelawny club as the champions continue to struggle, still winless after three games at the foot of the tables on one point.
On Saturday, Wadadah FC, which struggled in their last two outings, will take on Reggae Youths who are coming off their first game at this level, in an all-St James battle at the UDC field in Montego Bay.
Sunday’s other games will see Sandals Whitehouse and Granville FC seeking to maintain their winning ways.
Salt Marsh United are the team to watch, however, as their 4-1 thrashing of out-of-form Savannah SC will see them start favourites against a Boys Club team that lost 1-0 at Granville FC on Tuesday.
Despite conceding their first goal of the season, snapping a 218-minute span over which they did not allow a goal, Salt Marsh United are expected to get the better of the St James club at home.
Reggae Youths, which scrapped their way to a 1-0 win over Clark’s Town at the UDC field, will test their mettle against the former champions, who have struggled since beating Clark’s Town 3-1 in their opening game, but since then have conceded five goals in two games.
On Sunday, despite playing away from home, Sandals Whitehouse will hope to build some momentum after their 2-0 win over Beaches Negril on Tuesday, when they travel to Cedric Titus to face Clark’s Town.
After back-to-back draws to start the campaign, Sandals got the better of their fellow hotel team, and this should give them confidence against Clark’s Town.
Granville FC will be gunning for their third win in a row when they travel to Hanover to face Lucea FC at the Collin Miller Sports Complex.
Granville FC beat Petersfield and Boys Club by 1-0 margins, both at home, but should have the measure of the promoted Hanover team.
Champions Savannah SC are yet to win in three outings and have scored just a single goal and will face a Petersfield team coming off a win over Lucea FC on Tuesday.
Savannah SC have also conceded five goals, the most in Zone 1, and could have problems keeping out the Petersfield FC strikers.
At Llandilo, Beaches Negril will hope to rebound from their loss to Sandals Whitehouse when they host winless Village United in Zone 2.
Despite their loss on Tuesday, Beaches Negril are the top-scoring team in Zone 2, having netted six goals so far, with top scorer Kemar Dawkins leading the way with three goals.
On Tuesday, Granville FC beat Boys Club 1-0, while Petersfield edged Lucea FC 2-1 in the other Zone 1 games, while Reggae Youths edged Clark’s Town 1-0, and Village United came from behind to earn a 1-1 draw against visitors Wadadah FC at Elleston Wakeland Centre.
