MBU host Tivoli
Montego Bay United will seek to maintain their lead at the top of the Red Stripe Premier League when they host Tivoli Gardens in a Monday night game at the Montego Bay Sports Complex.
If their last seven encounters are anything to go by, Monday’s game, which starts at 8:30pm, promises to be exciting. None of the games between the clubs over the past three seasons ended in a draw.
Montego Bay United have won four of the seven games, including their first meeting this season when a double from Dino Williams settled the points for the back-to-back finalists.
Montego Bay United lead Portmore United on goal difference with both teams tied on 34 points, well above Tivoli who are just two points out of the relegation zone on 19 points.
Tivoli Gardens are winless in their last five games since they beat Boys’ Town 2-1 almost a month ago, while Montego Bay United are undefeated in their last six.
With Williams’ 13 goals and Owayne Gordon’s eight combining for 21 goals, Montego Bay United are the most prolific scoring team with 29 goals scored.
They are just as efficient at the other end of the field, allowing the least number of goals, 11, one less than Humble Lion’s 12.
Despite the lowly position, Tivoli Gardens can be dangerous, as they have scored 23 goals, the third best, but have given up 26, making them the joint worst with last-placed Waterhouse FC.
Junior Flemmings has scored eight goals for Tivoli Gardens, who will be seeking their second win in Montego Bay, after upsetting Montego Bay United 2-0 at WesPow Park last season.
