Jami Dread to sound di alarm
“The fans can expect a stellar performance as I’m very excited to perform on such a great show with a line-up like no other. This is a great platform to even learn more about the genre,” he told the
Jamaica Observer.
The show’s line-up includes reggae acts Iba Mahr, Bushman, I Wayne and Romain Virgo.
Jami Dread (given name Stefan Prieler) was born in Baden, Austria. He said as a child, he was exposed to a wide cross section of music.
“I grew up mainly listening to Black music genres like hip hop and R&B, along with electronic-based music like house and techno. My grandfather was a big fan of Jamaican legends like Bob Marley and Peter Tosh; so my exposure to reggae music came during the most influential part of my life, my early childhood,” he explained.
A software engineer by profession, Jami Dread said he started investing in studio equipment at 21.
In a previous interview with the
Observer, the singer said he was aware that living in Austria made it hard to ‘buss’ in the genre.
“It is quite harder as an Austrian-based artiste to emerge or ‘buss’, as the scene there itself isn’t that big. It is still missing a proper unity, therefore, it is hard to push. It is even harder for a dancehall artiste, as reggae in general is more welcome in Europe than dancehall,” he said.
His releases include
Privilege, Better Life, andHigh and Frass.
