August Town residents protest killing of bus driver
ST ANDREW, Jamaica – Residents today staged a protest in August Town, St Andrew over the shooting death of a Jamaica Urban Transit Company (JUTC) bus driver by criminals.
Police report that at approximately 9:00pm Tuesday, 51-year-old Albert Barnes of 3 East, Greater Portmore, St Catherine was driving a state-owned bus through the area when he was held up and shot.
He was rushed to hospital where he was pronounced dead.
The incident has triggered anger among August Town residents who today took to the streets.
“We are angry about what took place in the community and are calling on the police to leave no stones unturned in their search to bring the attacker to justice,” said one woman who was part of the group of protesters.
Political representatives from both the ruling People’s National Party and the opposing Jamaica Labour Party have joined the residents in their March through the crime-torn community.
