PERTH, Australia (CMC) — West Indies captain Stafanie Taylor stroked her second half-century and went past 200 runs as she helped Sydney Thunder beat Deandra Dottin’s Perth Scorchers by 22 runs in the inaugural Women’s Big Bash here yesterday.

Opting to bat first at the WACA, Thunder got up to 139 for three off their 20 overs before limiting Scorchers to 117 all out with five balls remaining in the innings, to win their first game in three outings.

Taylor top-scored with 59 from 49 balls with seven fours and added 85 off 77 balls for the first wicket with Rachael Haynes who scored 33 from 37 deliveries.

When Haynes was run out by Dottin, Taylor added a further 28 for the second wicket with captain Alex Blackwell (26 not out) before finally perishing in the 17th over to fast bowler Katherine Brunt who finished with two for 20 from her overs.

Dottin went wicket-less from four overs of medium pace which cost 34 runs.

In reply, Scorchers got a cameo top score of 25 off 20 balls from Dottin but she was the only one to pass 20 as the innings declined badly.

Scorchers were reeling at 21 for four in the fifth over when Dottin anchored a 34-run fourth wicket stand with Chloe Piparo (19) to lift the innings.

When Dottin, who struck three boundaries, was bowled by seamer Nicola Carey in the tenth over with the score on 55 for four, Scorchers steadily lost wickets as fast bowler Rene Farrell (2-17) and off-spinner Erin Osborne (2-24) make key strikes.

Taylor claimed one for 23 from her four overs off-spin.

The Jamaican now has 237 runs from six innings at an average of 47.
