New Market PC Bank cops Branch of the Year title
CLARENDON PARK, Clarendon — The New Market National People’s Co-operative Bank Jamaica Limited (PC Bank) in St Elizabeth now has the title of Branch of the Year for Microfinance.
New Market earned the award for its performance during 2015.
During an awards function held recently at the Juici Patties Complex at Clarendon Park, branch staff received a trophy and cash for the achievement.
Shaniel Smith from the New Market branch copped awards for highest number and highest value of loans underwritten for 2015 and Loans Officer of the Year.
Looking back on the achievements of the branch, Officer in Charge of the New Market PC Bank Janine Johnson-Ramsay told the
Jamaica Observer Central that she was elated.
According to the company’s website, the National People’s Co-operative Bank is “the premier community bank for rural, agricultural and community development in Jamaica”.
Outside of the microfinance portfolio, other loans are available, bill payment can be done, legal services can be accessed and there are insurance offerings, PC Bank officials said.
“We wanted to highlight the microfinance unit because it made a great impact on the organisation,” said microfinance manager Keva Ellis.
She said the micro finance unit has been around since 2013 and enables members to access loans of $20,000 – $100,000.
Phillipa Beckford, Vice-President of Sales and Product at CMFG Life (formerly CUNA Mutual Insurance Society) gave advice to branch managers and loan officers on ways to improve performance.
A “selling attitude” is necessary at all times and there should be an understanding that achieving the common goal is a team effort, said Beckford.
“Whatever gets measured, gets done,” Beckford emphasised, noting that the tasks for the workday should be properly and frequently assessed in order to meet targets.
Other branches that were recognised at the event included Port Antonio and Manchioneal in Portland, Old Harbour in St Catherine, Chapelton in Clarendon, Christiana in Manchester and Balaclava in St Elizabeth.
