Savannah SC surprised Wadadah in Western Confed league
SAVANNA-LA-MAR, Westmoreland
Beaches Negril shocked former champions Wadadah FC 5-1 in their Jamaica Football Federation Charley’s Western Confederation Super League first-round game played at Llandilo in Savanna-la-Mar on Tuesday.
Kemar Dawkins scored a hat-trick to lead Beaches Negril to the biggest victory margin so far this year, as they surged to the top of the points tables in Zone 2 with four points.
In another game played at Whitehouse, hosts Sandals Whitehouse and newly promoted Reggae Youths played out a 2-2 draw also in Zone 2.
Clark’s Town and Wadadah FC are both on three points in Zone 2, while Salt Marsh United lead Zone 1 with maximum six points after winning their first two games, both by 1-0 margins, while three teams —Petersfield FC, Granville FC and Montego Bay Boys Club — are all on three points.
Beaches scored the most goals ever in a match at the Confederation level, beating Village United 5-0 last year in their surprise win over the St James team.
On Tuesday, Dawkins scored in the 23rd, 33rd and 70th minutes, while Paul Beswick opened the scoring in the 29th minute and Sasamarley Barrett scored in the 60th minute.
Ronaldo McLeish scored Wadadah FC’s only goal in the 37th minute.
At Whitehouse, Reggae Youths, who are in the first season in the Super League, led from the 15th minute, but had to come from behind to earn a point by game’s end.
Santino Grinnion gave Reggae Youths the lead, but Ron Daley equalised in the 28th minute, while Dervin Campbell gave the Westmoreland team the lead in the 48th minute.
Oshane Russell then scored in the 65th minute for Reggae Youths, as both teams earned back-to-back draws.
