Cavalier, Waterhouse claim equal share in 8-goal spree
What appeared a bit of overconfidence on the part of Cavalier SC and downright sloppy defending by Waterhouse FC ended in an eight-goal farce between the teams as they drew 4-4 in a Red Stripe Premier League late kick-off at Stadium East on Sunday.
Despite the plethora of goals, the final result did nothing to improve the positions of either team as Cavalier SC remained fixed in the 10th and Waterhouse on 12th, on 18 and 15 points, respectively.
Cavalier showed up the untidiness of the Waterhouse team at the first run as the second minute of play resulted in the opening goal. This was after a senior defender failed to negotiate a high centre on the right side of the goal and exposed goalkeeper George Brown to an alert Nicholas Hamilton, who slipped around the defender to hit a low shot past the goalkeeper to his right.
Three minutes after the opening goal, Evan Taylor, the mule-kicking midfielder, then beat Cavalier goalkeeper Carlloyd Walters from the spot after nippy forward Kemar Beckford was flattened in the area.
Cavalier seemed to detect a flaw in the Waterhouse defence and came right back two minutes later to regain the lead through leading goal scorer Chevone Marsh. Waterhouse continued to leak goals as Hamilton beat Brown for his second to give Cavalier an encouraging 3-1 lead after 22 minutes.
With their confidence apparently now at boiling point, Cavalier were surprised as, with eight minutes remaining before the interval, Waterhouse struck twice to send the teams to the half-time break on level terms at 3-3 from equalising goals by first-half substitute Kenroy Howell and Sean Coleman, respectively.
Waterhouse began to look more purposeful in attack and caused some anxious moments for their hosts after two first-half changes through injury and the strengthening of the attack early in the second by the introduction of goal scoring forward Andre Leslie, .
Howell, however, logged his second of the match 11 minutes from time that gave Waterhouse a 4-3 lead.
But low and behold, three minutes later it was goalkeeper George Brown’s time to be inadvertent as the Dinthill High custodian let slip from his grasp a tame shot that bubbled and allowed Cavalier’s Marsh to register his second goal of the game.
