We Love to Eat!
Jamaicans love to eat! This is a fact that we take absolutely no shame in while we try to entice those around us to indulge in our treats or feasts.
Considering we have access to one of the most diverse and ecclectic fusions to choose from, can you really blame us? With varieties such as African, Amerindian, Spanish, Dutch and Indian, which were all brought to the region by way of colonization; Jamaicans in particular have developed a culture to latch on to their favourite and carry it to their graves. In some cases, these variations have over time intrinsically fused into what we sometimes call ‘Jamaican cooking’, that our people as well as visitors seems to appreciate oh so much.
Due to the fact that we have so much flavour and spices to choose from, that can easily be created with the marriage of a ‘dutch pot’ and some very hot vegetable oil, Jamaicans have not always been a fan of eating out. The older generations in particular seem more enthused about the idea of ‘running a boat’ than getting all dolled up to go out and eat.
Eating out for Christmas Dinner is still generally a new concept to the Jamaican scene but has been and continues to gain popularity, especially among the younger generations.
With so many options and varieties to explore, Jamaica already has a great platform with timeless tantalizing meals and location options. Whether it be fine dining with Merlot, dinner by the sea or a meal on the go, eating out for Christmas is a rapidly developing trend in Jamaica. More and more persons are realizing that it saves time, money and brings families together in a new kind of way. You should try it out.
