Phone snatcher gets nine months in jail
A man who pleaded guilty to robbing a woman of her cellular phone in New Kingston was slapped with a nine-month prison sentence when he appeared in the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate’s Court.
Kevin Garrison pleaded guilty to robbery with aggravation when he appeared in court yesterday.
The court heard that on December 5, the complainant was walking along Dominica Drive, New Kingston, when Garrison walked up behind her, held a knife to her shoulder, grabbed her cellular phone and ran.
Two security guards, who were alerted by the woman’s friend, gave chase and caught Garrison.
The phone was recovered, and Garrison was handed over to the New Kingston police who arrested and charged him.
When he appeared in court on Tuesday, Senior Resident Magistrate Judith Pusey asked Garrison if there was any reason why he should not stay in jail for Christmas, prior to handing down her ruling
Garrison shook his head, indicating that there was no reason for him not to go to jail.
