Final spots secured in urban schools basketball
ST GEORGE’S College and St Catherine High are through to the finals of the ISSA Southern Conference Under-16 basketball competition, while Camperdown High and Calabar High did the same in the Under-19 category after last Friday’s semi-finals at the Campion College courts.
The finals are scheduled to be played in the second week of January 2016.
In the Under-16 semi-finals, last season’s beaten finalists St George’s College, who are coached by Clifford Brown, defeated Jamaica College 66-46.
The principal scorers for St George’s were Tadoja McCormack, with 18 points, and Jordan Gillies, who had 16 points and 10 rebounds. Carrington Brown got 14 points, 16 rebounds and three assists for Jamaica College.
The Lennox Lindo-coached St Catherine High knocked out defending champions Calabar High in the second Under-16 semi-finals with a 48-41 points win. Leading the scoring for St Catherine was Tamoy Christie with 17 points and 13 rebounds. Fian Brown scored 12 points and 10 rebounds for dethroned champions Calabar.
Meanwhile, in the first Under-19 semi-finals, Camperdown, who are highly fancied, defeated many-time champions Ardenne High 49-36 points. The main scorer for Camperdown was Dashean Boyd who had 15 points. D’Andre Forbes had 21 points, nine rebounds and three steals for Ardenne.
In the second Under-19 semi-finals, the Ludloo Barker-coached Calabar High defeated St Catherine High 63-47 points after the scores were locked at 25-25 at half time.
The principal scorers for Calabar were Malick McCarthy, with 14 points, nine rebounds and four steals; and Javaughn Foulder, with 14 points, five rebounds and four steals. Kuschan Givans had 20 points and four assists for losers St. Catherine High.
