Daryl Vaz: I would have been ‘fired’ for using gun lyrics on platform
ST CATHERINE, Jamaica — Opposition MP, Daryl Vaz, said that he would have been “fired” by the Jamaica Labour Party (JLP) for using the lyrics of Vybz Kartel’s violence anthem, “Wha’ Dem Feel Like”, on a political platform.
“If this Vaz had done what me cousin do the other night, Bustamante would fire me same time; Bruce Golding fire me same time; and Andrew Holness fire me same time,” Vaz told a JLP mass rally and gospel concert in Old Harbour Sunday night.
“This is the difference between when people take responsibility and action for what is done and, can you imagine, as Desmond (McKenzie) say, if Daryl did do what Dwayne Vaz do, what would what dem would a do me!
“Tonight I wouldn’t even be here on this platform. But, I say to you, Tom Drunk, but Tom no fool,” Vaz said.
Daryl Vaz, JLP MP for West Portland, was reacting to the controversial use of the lyrics of the Kartel’s violence song, “Wha’ Dem Feel Like”, by People’s National Party (PNP) MP for Central Westmoreland, Dwayne Vaz, at a PNP rally in St James last week.
The song written and performed by dancehall deejay, Vybz Kartel, who was convicted of murder in April, 2014 and includes lines like: “Puzzle up mi gun inna jeffery hype/Mek we step like a centipede and tek the lead inna war/A weh dem feel like, dem skin too tough fi bleed”.
Vaz was referring to an alleged fire at a PNP candidate’s office in St James prior to the rally. He said that he had heard that “Labourites” were responsible for the fire.
