Bermuda seeking new puisne judge; salary US$190,000 pa
HAMILTON, Bermuda (CMC) — Bermuda is seeking a new puisne judge — a post worth nearly US$190,000 a year — ahead of the retirement next year of Jamaican-born Norma Wade-Miller.
Justice Wade-Miller, once married to former Leader of the Opposition Frederick Wade, is set to retire from the Supreme Court on May 26.
“This new appointment will be made by the governor on the basis of a recommendation by the Judicial and Legal Services Committee,” a spokeswoman for Government House said.
The position has already been advertised, with a notice in the weekend edition of the
Royal Gazette newspaper calling for barristers and attorneys with more than 10 years of post-admission experience, along with a sound and thorough knowledge of all aspects of the law.
The notice also states that the initial term of employment for a non-Bermudian appointee will not exceed five years.
The successful candidate would be required to sit as a judge in civil cases, chair or be a member of statutory boards, and earn an annual salary of US$187,606, plus allowances.
Government House said it is also seeking a new director of public prosecutions after Rory Field, a Briton, announced he would be stepping down from the post.
