The Kitten’ bubbles to another win
The Hamark Farms-owned Bubbling Kitten returned to winning ways on Saturday when, guided by Wesley Henry, she captured the $850,000 running of the Dye Job Sprint at Caymanas Park.
With Henry riding for 14-time champion trainer Philip Feanny, Bubbling Kitten, as usual, was quick out the starting gates but was held in second place behind the other speedster, Rally Baby (Paul Francis), approaching the half-mile.
When asked to run by Henry entering the straight, Bubbling Kitten responded well and sprinted away from the field to win by six-and-a-half lengths in the Restricted Stakes event for native-bred and imported two-year-olds going over 1,200 metres.
The highly rated American-bred filly and 1-5 favourite, Blue Dixie, under Omar Walker – who was outpaced leaving the 700-metre pole – came on strong for second place ahead of Kimmy’s Train (O’Brien White) and a tiring Rally Baby.
Bred by HAM Stables Limited, Bubbling Kitten (Blue Pepsi Lodge – Shanda D) covered the distance in a decent 1:13:1 minutes.
“The performance by Bubbling Kitten today (Saturday) was an excellent one. I am sorry that she didn’t come on in time to contest the big races but the trainer has taken his time with her and she ran a good race,” owner Howard Hamilton said after the race.
“I hope that she stays and can feature in the Classic races next year, but for now let’s see how it goes first,” he said.
“The plan was to get a good break, relax her and make her run her race in deep stretch. However, approaching the half-mile, I saw that Rally Baby wanted the lead, so I just held my horse back a bit in second position and asked her to run up the lane and she just powered home comfortably,” Henry said.
