Embassy of Spain opens condolence book for Ambassador
KINGSTON, Jamaica — A condolence book will be opened at the Embassy of Spain tomorrow for Aníbal Jiménez Abascal, the ambassador of Spain to Jamaica since June 2014.
Ambassador Jiménez died suddenly on Friday, December 11, while on vacation in Madrid, Spain. He was 67 years old and, according to an Embassy of Spain news release, was accompanied in his last moments by his wife, Filomena Ruíz Bellón.
The condolence book will be opened on the sixth floor of the Courtleigh Corporate Centre — which is located at 6–8 St Lucia Avenue, Kingston 5 — from Tuesday, to Thursday, December 17, between 10:00 am and 3:00 pm.
The Embassy of Spain said Monday that Carmen Rives, the deputy head of mission, would continue to carry out the functions of Chargée d’Affaires ad interim, until a new ambassador is appointed.
The embassy also expressed heartfelt gratitude for the numerous messages of support received thus far in its news release.
“Ambassador Jiménez truly enjoyed the exquisite beauty of the island and the charm of its people and considered it a blessing to have been posted to Jamaica as he prepared to complete his over 40 years of service as a diplomat,” the embassy said.
