Cop who seized juice vendor’s car booted
THE special corporal who seized a juice vendor’s motor car and never returned it has since been dismissed from the force.
The car was seized by Special Corporal Owen Porter on December 1, 2007 from Lovell Green in downtown Kingston.
The Jamaica Observer was informed Thursday that Porter, who was assigned to the Darling Street Police Station, was dismissed six months after he seized the vehicle for no apparent reason.
Porter was dismissed by the Island Special Constabulary Force at the end of an inquiry into a complaint brought by Green about the matter.
Green later filed a lawsuit in the Supreme Court against Porter and the Attorney General’s Department seeking damages for loss of income and to recover the cost of the vehicle, a 1990 Toyota Corsa.
Attorneys for the State accepted liability and an assessment of damages hearing was held last month during which Green, who was represented by attorney Garth Lyttle, was awarded close to $5 million plus interest.
