‘Big Daddy’ is really cool
Bigdaddykool staked his credentials as one of the main contenders for the Supreme Ventures Limited (SVL) Jamaica Two-Year-Old Stakes when he produced a noticeable come-from-behind run in deep stretch to win the $800,000 Andrew HB Agular Memorial Cup in fine style at Caymanas Park last Saturday.
The SVL Jamaica Two-Year-Old Stakes – the third and final jewel in Triple Crown series – will be run on December 26 (Boxing Day) over 1,600 metres.
Ridden by Shane Ellis for trainer Anthony ‘Baba’ Nunes, Bigdaddykool
was slowly out of the starting gates and raced in last position in the 10-horse field heading towards the 1,200-metre marker behind expected leader The Promise Land (Wesley Henry), Mister Bones (Rayan Wilson) and Golden Glory (Aaron Chatrie).

The Stephan Narinesingh-owned Bigdaddykool
then made his move when he began to go by horses approaching the final bend to slip down into a striking position as Golden Glory opened up a two length lead on the field.
Turning for home in fourth position on the outside, Bigdaddykool accelerated and the bay colt by Sorrentino – Beware Baby
– came storming on the inside rails to beat Golden Glory by four lengths, going away in the maiden special weight event over 1,600 metres.
Ellis said that he was confident that the Ham Stables-bred Bigdaddykool would have won.
“He (Bigdaddykool) ran well…he ran as expected. Using Lasix for the first time and the distance made the difference today (Saturday). He is big in body and he has long strides so we knew that he can get a distance of ground.
“His first race on November 18 over 1,000 metres straight in which he came running on for third place was a prep for this trophy event and he performed well,” Ellis said.
Ellis then confirmed that the connections are looking towards the SVL Jamaica Two-Year-Olds Stakes.
“We talked about that race and that is something that the connections are looking at but let’s first see how he progresses for today’s race.
“Bigdaddykool is so far one of the top stayers in the bunch of juveniles this year and I think that he will be a factor in the Classic season.”
