Young looks to revive W’house in Tivoli clash
Young has stepped in for Anthony Patrick, who had earlier replaced Calvert Fitzgerald, and its not even halfway into the season as yet.
Waterhouse are rooted at the bottom of the 12-team league on 13 points after three wins and nine defeats from 16 games. The former champions must get a positive result to revive their season, but are likely to find a slipping Tivoli Gardens team, in ninth spot on 18 points, giving nothing away.
It should be another bruising encounter between two hard-running teams, and fans should be treated to another intense battle between the tough-tackling defender Ranike Anderson and the bustling veteran striker Jermaine ‘Tuffy’ Anderson.
Waterhouse will have to do without their playmaker Romario Campbell, who is on a red card suspension, and the injured Gary McIntosh. The likes of Evan Taylor, Nicholy Findlayson, Sean Coleman and Kenroy Howell will lead Waterhouse’s victory charge.
Tivoli Gardens, on the back of three consecutive defeats, will be looking to Junior Flemmings, Jermaine Johnson, Miguel Ricketts, Rohan Reid and Captain Andre Morgan for inspiration.
Meanwhile, leaders Portmore United will be looking to rebound from their midweek loss when they host Boys’ Town at the Juici Park in Clarendon, starting at 3:00 pm.
Portmore, on top of the league with 31 points, lost to Cavalier on Wednesday and are fancied to get the better of a Boys’ Town outfit in seventh spot on 19 points.
However, it won’t be a cake walk for Portmore United as evidenced by both teams’ 0-0 draw in the first round. The Red Brigades are not playing badly, and if the likes of Rafeik Thomas, Peter Keyes, Michael Campbell and Adrian King put on their shooting boots, Portmore United could be in for a surprise.
Champions Arnett Gardens and the surging Harbour View clash at the Anthony Spaulding Sports Complex at 6:00 pm in an intriguing encounter.
Arnett Gardens are fourth on 26 points and are fighting to hold off a Harbour View in fifth on 24 points.
Both teams have won three of their last five games and are aiming to stay in touch with the leaders nearing the halfway mark. On Thursday, Arnett Gardens scored a good come-from-behind 2-1 away win over Reno, while Harbour View clipped Tivoli Gardens 1-0, setting the stage for an epic battle.
University of the West Indies (UWI) FC, on 19 points in eighth spot, host 10th-placed Cavalier on 17 points in an intriguing game at the Bowl starting at 3:00 pm. UWI are on the move and are now being taken seriously, while Cavalier ended a winless streak. Both teams should feel confident of continuing their surge away from the relegation zone.
Third-placed Humble Lion with 27 points travel to the Spanish Town Prison Oval to play a floundering Rivoli United in 11th spot on 15 points. But, despite the difference in the table, it should be a very close encounter.
On Monday, second-placed Montego Bay United, on 27 points, host a Reno team in sixth spot on 22 points at the Montego Bay Sports Complex, starting at 8:45 pm.
